Less than a Week to Go!

Hello there and welcome back to Eco Robotics’ bi-weekly newsletter, your place to get caught up on everything FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics. As of now, the team is less then a week away from competing in the San Francisco Regional FIRST Robotics Competition and are as focused as ever. With sections of the team meeting this past Thursday and Saturday - along with their regular meeting times of Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays - Eco Robotics members are taking every available opportunity to test and perfect their robot to make sure it’s ready for game day.

Currently, the mechanical parts of the robot are complete, except for the hook, which will be used to pull the robot up onto a metal chain at the end of the match. The hook has been put into CAD (Computer-aided design) but still needs to be cut out of metal on the CNC (Computer numerical control). Now, team members are focused on electrical cable management, adjusting the pressure level of the robots pneumatics (which are used to raise and lower the robot’s rollers that pick up game pieces), and drive practice which is used not only to help the robots drivers to get practice driving in before competition but also to see if any other problems arise, or if any other aspects of the robot can be improved upon. Away from people working directly on the robot, members of the team have been practicing their frisbee skills for the end of the match where a human player is able to score points by throwing a note (which is a foam ring) onto a post, called a microphone.
