Hello, and welcome to Eco Robotics bi-weekly newsletter; your inside look into team 8016’s problem-solving skills and student-led teamwork. In the next few minutes your mind will be transported into what it looks like to prepare for a FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics competition.
This week, like most, Eco Robotics has their work benches and CAD (computer aided design) software full of new ideas and inventions.
This year, the teams pre-season, which takes place from August to December, is even more jam packed then usual. At the moment, the team is working around the clock to finish a new robot that they started constructing at the beginning of the summer.
Yes! To prepare for the 2024 robotics season, which will begin in January, Eco Robotics is making a second robot to compete in the offseason event of Capitol City Classic! This event, which will be held in Sacramento on October 27-29, will give the team a chance to refine their skills and teach newcomers - such as freshmen - about how the team functions and what their roles on the team will be. Also, with the team's prior leaders going off to college this fall, Eco Robotics now has the chance to pass along their knowledge before they leave.
This will be the teams second year attending Capital City Classics, but their first year entering the competition with a second robot! The event will hold the same game (Charged Up) that Eco Robotics took place in during last year's competition - during which they attended the FIRST World Championships in Houston, Texas.
At the moment, our team is split into several different groups. There is the Mechanical Department, which is in charge of the construction of the second robot. Presently, those in this subgroup are working on learning how to use the team's new CNC (computer numerical control) machine to fabricate parts needed for the robot's assembly. There are also people who are focusing on looking over the robotics CAD and fixing issues that came up in the team's recent prototype.
On the other side, there is the Operation Department, which is constantly working on budgeting - such as reserving the team's Airbnbs for the upcoming event - and reaching out to find new team sponsors.
While these two teams are busy at work, let me not forget to mention Eco Robotic’s drive team. Presently, our team's new drivers are focused on refining their drive skills on last season's robot, Clawdia, in order to prepare for the competition ahead.
Besides that, it looks like that's all that I have for you today. Now you know a little more about the team 8016 and their goals for the future. If you are interested in donating or reaching out to the team, feel free to reach out to Eco Robotics at credorobotics@credohigh.org or filling out the form on our website.
And lastly, make sure to come back in two weeks for another update on the team progress and all of the exciting events that are yet to come.
